Today is my first official day back in the office after bub number two! As I reflect on the 4 hours it took me to get to my desk today (and that was with major prep, efficiency and planning!), I am reminded of the great tips shared at last week’s Professionelle 2018 Panel Series: The Mum’s Perspective #DoubleJuggle
Tip 1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. As we get out of the car at daycare I notice the blueberry juice dribbled down Mr 2’s jumper from breakfast (looking like I‘ve dressed him in yesterday’s clothes!) Argh, oh well… don’t sweat the small stuff I remember.
Tip 2. Use your village and share the load. Yes, it took me three trips down the stairs this morning to load the car for the day so when someone offered to give me a hand, I said YES! New mantra – it’s ok to accept help.
Tip 3. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. To work or not to work? Daycare or in-home care? Full-time or part-time flex? These are all areas we’ve had to navigate these past few years as we find a groove that fits and works for our family. The key here – what fits and works for ‘our family’. Own what works for you, and be courageous enough to have the conversations about why you do what you do. Own your decisions with love and grace.
A big thank you to the Professionelle panel members for all that you shared last week: Jodie King, Air New Zealand's Chief of People; Miriama Kamo, Broadcaster; Her Honour Jan-Marie Doogue, Chief District Court Judge; and Hannah Ockelford, new Mum and Professionelle facilitator.
Also, a big thank you to all the women who attended the event and shared your stories - including the laughs and insights on nits, bras and periods! Here’s to engaged parenting AND a successful career - whatever that looks like :)
PS: To my fellow DoubleJugglers, the second part of the panel series will be hosted on Tuesday 12th June: The Struggle of the Juggle (interactive seminar). Find out more here.
